General Notes


Limitation: This page shows the distribution of students on the classes in Mount Lebanon Only. More information about SEM students and classes' schedules in all of South Lebanon, Jbeil, Jordan, and Palestine will be updated later on.

Schedules: The schedule of each of these classes is valid only for the first meeting. i.e. for the week starting on Sunday 28th of June, 2009. At this first meeting, students may agree with their teacher to change the schedule of their meetings if they would find another date that fits better with their personal schedules.

Location All classes that are showing in this list take place at St George Church in Jdaide. Kindly check the contact us page for the full address and map.

Students: Students cannot change from a class to another definitely unless they get the permission of the administration.

Choir Courses: All Choir courses will start in the second week of starting the courses. i.e. starting Monday 6th of July.

Grading: At the end of this trimester, a final exam will split the students of this group into 3 new groups according to students' grades:
  • Failing Grades: Students who fail this exam will have to repeat the level.
  • Average Grades: Average students will have to go through the second part of level 1 in the next trimester.
  • Distinguished Grades: Distinguished students will be able to shift directly to level 2 in the next trimester without going through the second part of level 1.
Choir Course: No choir course is given in t-his level.

Book: Students will follow no book but a collection of selected prolonged chants in the 8 modes. They will read them in parallage then in chanting.
Notes: In the first meeting Classes 3 and 4 will be joined and they will have an exam that will divide them between the 2 levels 3 and 4.
Choir Course: Both classes 3 and 4 will get the same choir course this trimester. The program will focus on doxas and the stachiraric elaborated style for chants from the months of October, November, and December. It will be recorded on a weekly basis and these chants will be part of the daily vespers program prepared for TL Lumiere TV and Liban Libre Radio. In this choir, males and females will be separated from each other.

Course on History of Byzantine Music

The general knowledge course offered by SEM this trimester is about the HISTORY OF BYZANTINE MUSIC (ADD 101), it will be delivered in the form of lectures that will take place at Jdaide each Thursday at 9h30PM.

Every Trimester a different course of general knowledge (ADD) is offered at SEM. Students are required to choose any 3 of these courses and pass them to graduate.
