Introduction

The Concept

SEM’s nativity concert this year addresses the chanting of Psalms in the liturgical service of the Nativity.

The first Christian communities’ psalmody focused on psalms. Christians had adopted the chanting of psalms from the Jewish tradition. Later on, they started adding new Christian compositions to each verse of the psalm.

In this concert, we address a variety of liturgical combinations of psalms and chants of the Nativity.

From the musical perspective, the chants of the concert represent different styles of Byzantine music composers from the past 3 centuries. A special guest, a Greek chanter, Giorgos Fanaras will add his own special touch of tradition and beauty to the concert.

تتناول أمسية SEM هذه السّنة ترتيل المزامير في الخدمة الليتورجيّة لعيد الميلاد.

تركّزت صلوات الجماعات المسيحيّة الأولى على ترتيل المزامير. وكان المسيحيّون قد اعتمدوا ترتيل المزامير من التقليد اليهوديّ. ثمّ أخذوا يضيفون ترتيلة مسيحيّة جديدة على كلّ آية من المزامير.

نتناول في هذه الأمسية مجموعة من التراتيل تبيّن مختلف أشكال التزاوج الليتورجيّ ما بين مزامير النبي داوود وتراتيل الميلاد.

أمّا من الناحية الموسيقيّة، فتراتيل الأمسية تمثل أنماطا مختلفة لملحنين بيزنطيين من القرون الثلاثة الماضية. ضيف مميّز، مرتل يونانيّ، يورغوس فانارس سيُضفي لمسات مميّزة من الجمال والتقليد على الأمسية.
